Sourdough Bread

Ah, the smell of fresh baked bread.  That wonderful, rich, fragrance that just smells like a warm hug.  On Trim Healthy Mama, we CAN have bread, provided we give it the time and attention it needs, so it can actually HELP on our weight loss journey, instead of spiking the blood sugars out of control.

This page will be a landing place for any sourdough posts, so you can find them all in one place.  I'll try to organize everything so you can find what you need quickly and easily!

Glenda Groff @AllAroundTheFamilyTableBlog.com

Glenda Groff is currently the internet's favorite THM Bread

baker!  She makes fantastic THM compliant sourdough,

has dozens of recipes so you can make it too, and even

sells her starter!!  As of 2022, I'm pretty  much only baking

from Glenda's recipes, or adjusting her basic recipes to

come up with varieties of my own.  I highly recommend

you browse around her website to get started with

sourdough!

Bake-A-Long with me! Honey Whole Wheat Sourdough

Many people are intimidated by sourdough, and if you've ever read a sourdough book, or looked around at the sourdough gurus on the internet, it's no wonder!  You'll find people who measure ingredients by the gram, who spend the whole day refreshing a steamer to make it rise, and - more than anything else - use all white flour to make their sourdough.  Not only is that time consuming, but white flour IS NOT on plan, even if you sour it.

I noticed how many people are new to sourdough through THM, but have no one around to show you the ins and outs of sourdough.  It's really not that difficult, but so much of making sourdough comes down to *knowing* what to look for as you go.  The internet will make you believe that it's hard, and it's not - I promise!

To help out all of those who are new to the sourdough world, I videoed myself making a loaf of Glenda's Honey Oat Sourdough bread.  Every step, from making the starter, to kneading, to shaping and baking, are all included!  I explain each step, how and why we do it, which ingredients are necessary and which are optional, and I show you the texture of the dough at every stage, so you can bake right along with me and have success with sourdough!  Come bake-a-long with me!

Maintaining a Tiny Sourdough Starter - Click for Blog Post - 3 ways to Maintain Your Starter

As I have mentioned in other sections, sourdough is very forgiving!  There are many ways to manage your starter and dough.  Many RIGHT ways!  It mostly depends on how much time and attention you want to put into your sourdough at any given time.  In this video, I explain and demonstrate how I choose to manage my daily sourdough starter.  It's a tiny amount, I don't have a lot of waste (discard), and I only mess with it once a day.
